Intern


We are looking for an intern to:


  • Learn how to use the Fruit Quality Service
  • Demonstrate the Service to potential customers via Zoom and on site visits in the Central Valley. FarmX will identify and qualify these sales prospects ahead of time.
  • Teach users how to use the Service, the measurement device, and the mobile app
  • Answer questions by phone and email
  • Manage distribution of the Fruit Quality Service equipment to customers
  • Provide 2/month status reports on customer success and issues


What an intern would get out of this experience:


  • Owning a project and managing its execution
  • Learn more about grape, tomato, and stone fruit growing and harvesting
  • Participate in a sales process for a service and product
  • Learne how to provide customer service to wine growers, fruit growers and processors, and tomato growers
  • Meet growers and learned more about how they grow 
  • If the intern masters this project, FarmX has many other projects in irrigation, Ag science, robotics, and imaging


Requirements:



  • Organized
  • Likes to work with and teach growers
  • Familiar with iPhone and Android apps
  • Has access to a car and can drive
  • Is familiar with agriculture
  • Speaks and writes English well
  • Speaks Spanish (preferred)


Salary is negotiable based on experience. Position starts June 1 and continues to Sept 15. If the person has to finish their school year after June 1 or return to school before Sept 15, schedule adjustments can be made.

Embedded Hardware Engineer


Overview:

We are seeking an Embedded Hardware Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

 

FarmX helps growers see and act on their crop stress and water needs. Only FarmX combines imaging, in-plant, and soil sensing into ‘Tell Me’ recommendations for optimizing irrigation. Our hardware and software automates irrigation to optimize crop health, uniformity distribution, and yield.

 

We are a team of experts with experience in agriculture and ag-related businesses. We are a multi-disciplinary engineering team with experience in low-power embedded systems, wireless technologies, hyperspectral image processing, machine learning, and Cloud SaaS software.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop embedded hardware system products from design, prototype, debug, characterization, test, through to production for agriculture sensors & networks and cloud driven irrigation controls.
  • Identify and select components or subsystems for optimal power and performance balance. 
  • Develop test strategies, test hardware, and test programs for engineering and production testing


Requirements:

  • BSEE 
  • 1-5 years of experience in the design and test of embedded systems
  • Able to create schematics and layout for mixed-signal circuit designs
  • Able to interpret data sheets for components and make recommendations for component selection
  • Experience with test equipment such as Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter, Logic Analyzer and Spectrum Analyzer
  • Knowledge of interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, RS485/RS232
  • Knowledge of peripherals such as ADCs, IO Expanders 
  • Experience with C/C++ for Microcontroller firmware development
  • Experience writing test scripts using Python
  • Strong documentation and writing skills
  • Work in Mt. View, CA office at least ½ time


Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Firmware for PIC MCU and TI’s MSP430
  • Electrical CAD Software such as EAGLE CAD and Altium
  • Linux OS programming
  • Git version control, JIRA and Confluence
  • Python data analysis tools and packages such as Jupyter Notebook, Numpy, Pandas and Matplotlib.

Field Service Technician


Overview:

In this role, you’ll be outdoors most of the day working in the agricultural regions of the Central Valley and to a lesser extent, Arizona and Washington State. You’ll install sophisticated electronics in vineyards, orchards and on ranches, service that equipment, and help the customer learn how to use our hardware and software.

 

Besides troubleshooting equipment, you’ll help build relationships with our customers and gain their trust. In many situations, you are the face of FarmX to the customer. You’ll also work with the latest wireless technologies, and use software/hardware tools to troubleshoot and build equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Install FarmX hardware in agricultural areas
  • Configure FarmX software
  • Respond to customer issues, resolve them and recommend long term improvements to prevent future problems
  • Document your field service work in field support applications
  • Train and demonstrate FarmX services and products to prospective and current customers
  • Must be willing to drive truck and trailer (paid training provided)


Job Requirements:

  • Confident and comfortable talking with customers
  • Aptitude with mobile software applications
  • Ability to troubleshoot and follow troubleshooting procedures
  • Able to configure hardware through simple configurator interfaces
  • Track and manage your work activities
  • A sense of design that enables you to build and sometimes design hardware components for field use 
  • Able to lift 55 lbs.



Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Customer facing work experience: the ability to explain technical topics to customers; to deal with customers who have problems.
  • Mechanical experience such as fabrication, assembly, and installation of outdoor mechanical electrical equipment
  • Electronics troubleshooting of IoT and radio telemetry devices, for example
  • Experience in the agricultural industry; preferred experience in permanent nut, citrus or vineyard field operations   
  • Comfortable with PCs and software
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-managed and work alone
  • Driving experience and clean DMV record
  • Must pass background check, pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Bilingual
  • Familiar with team collaboration software such as Slack, Microsoft Office
  • Prefer to work outdoors
